Abstract
with particular attention to its role in fostering student collaboration within project-based learning. The research was guided by two questions: (1) What types of differentiated learning are implemented in English classes? and (2) How is differentiated learning implemented in practice? Employing a qualitative descriptive methodology through case study design, data were collected via classroom observations, teacher interviews, and document analysis. Findings reveal that differentiation was applied holistically across content, process, product, and learning environment. Students engaged with tiered materials such as multi-level texts and visual aids, participated in flexible grouping, and produced varied learning outcomes including written assignments, posters, and oral presentations. Instructional strategies emphasized scaffolding and media variation, while classroom arrangements encouraged collaboration. Implementation followed six stages: identifying student needs, curriculum planning, instructional design, classroom delivery, formative assessment, and reflection. Strengths were evident in curriculum planning and instructional flexibility, whereas limitations appeared in the informal nature of needs assessment, reliance on oral feedback without systematic documentation, and largely teacher-centered reflection. Despite these challenges, the study concludes that differentiated learning at SMP Negeri Muara Kemumu was actively and meaningfully practiced, aligning with the principles of inclusivity and student-centeredness promoted in the Kurikulum Merdeka. The results highlight differentiated learning as a practical pathway for enhancing English instruction and cultivating collaborative skills among students, while also underscoring areas for further development in assessment and reflective practices.
