Abstract

This research investigates English teachers' perceptions of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) effectiveness in improving students' speaking skills and the challenges of implementing PjBL for speaking instruction at SDIT Rabbi Radhiyya 02 under the Merdeka Curriculum. This qualitative research involved three English teachers (T1, T2, and T3) with 12, 5, and 7 years of teaching experience, all with PjBL experience since 2022. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews in June 2026 and analyzed using Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña’s interactive model. Findings show all three teachers hold a consistently positive perception of PjBL, reporting gains in students' confidence, willingness to speak, vocabulary, and pronunciation, though grammar and formal register improved less. Four recurring challenges emerged: limited instructional time, fairly assessing individual performance in group project, differentiating support across proficiency levels, and engaging reluctant speakers, addressed through self-developed strategies. Findings reflect teachers’ reported perceptions and experiences and do not represent independently verified classroom practices.
