Abstract

ABSTRACT Nurul Apriani : PERCEIVED BENEFITS OF PLAYING ENGLISH ONLINE GAMES TOWARD STUDENTS’ ENGLISH LANGUAGE MASTERY. NIM : 20551047 Advisor : Dr. Paidi Gusmuliana, M.Pd Co-Advisor : Jumatul Hidayah, M.Pd This study aimed to investigate the perceived benefits of playing English online games toward students' English language mastery among students of the English Tadris Study Program at IAIN Curup. This study employed a quantitative approach using an ex post facto research design. The participants consisted of 108 second and fourth semester students of the English Tadris Study Program at IAIN Curup, all of whom were included using a total sampling technique. Data were collected through two structured questionnaires developed based on Isabela Granic's framework of gaming benefits and Rod Ellis's dimensions of English language mastery. The findings indicated that students perceived the benefits of playing English online games positively across cognitive, motivational, emotional, and social dimensions. Furthermore, students demonstrated high levels of English language mastery, with Written Language Mastery and Oral Language Mastery emerging as the most strongly influenced dimensions. These results suggest that integrating digital games into informal learning environments can effectively support language learning.
