Abstract
Naila Shafira Putri : Exploring Students’ Creativity in Translating Scientific Text at English Tadris Study Program IAIN Curup Advisor : Dr. Sakut Anshori, S.Pd., M.Hum. Co-advisor : Meli Fauziah, M.Pd Translating scientific texts requires not only linguistic competence but also creativity to overcome challenges related to technical terminology, complex sentence structures, and contextual meaning. However, many students still rely on literal translation, resulting in translations that are accurate but less natural and communicative. This study aimed to explore the aspects of creativity manifested in students’ scientific text translations and examine how they expressed creativity during the translation process. This qualitative case study involved 12 students of the English Tadris Study Program at IAIN Curup. Data were collected through document analysis of students’ translations and semi-structured interviews and analyzed using the interactive model of Huberman. The findings revealed that all seven aspects of creativity were identified in the students’ translations. Functional Creativity and Acceptability were the most dominant aspects, indicating that students prioritized naturalness and readability while maintaining the accuracy of scientific content. Loyalty Principle, Solving Translation Problems, Compensation Strategies, and Flexibility were also evident, whereas Novelty appeared least frequently. The study concludes that students demonstrate creativity as a purposeful problem-solving and adaptationprocess that balances semantic accuracy with communicative naturalness, providing insights for improving translation instruction and fostering creativity in academic translation.
