Abstract

Delfi Rara Anjesika : Students' Perceptions of the Role, Problems, and Strategies Related to TEFL Subject in Microteaching Class at IAIN Curup NIM : 22551009 Advisor : Dr. Leffi Noviyenty, M.Pd Co – Advisor : Sarwo Eddy, M.Pd This study investigated students' perceptions of the role of the Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) subject, the problems encountered when implementing TEFL knowledge, and the strategies used to overcome those problems in the Microteaching course at the English Tadris Study Program of IAIN Curup. Specifically, it examined students' perceptions of the role of the TEFL subject in Microteaching, the problems they encountered during teaching practice, and the strategies they employed to address those problems.This study employed a descriptive quantitative research design. The participants consisted of 52 sixthsemester students who had completed the TEFL subject and were enrolled in the Microteaching course. Total sampling was applied, and data were collected using a structured questionnaire comprising 63 valid items measured on a four-point Likert scale. The data were analyzed using mean scores and percentage analysis.The findings revealed that students perceived the TEFL subject as playing an important role in preparing them for the Microteaching course. Among the four dimensions of teacher knowledge, Pedagogical Knowledge obtained the highest mean score, while Content Knowledge received the highest percentage of positive responses. The findings also showed that students encountered several challenges in implementing TEFL knowledge, particularly in teaching confidence and teaching strategies. To address these challenges, students employed various strategies, with Confidence Improvement Strategies obtaining the highest mean score and Classroom Management Strategies receiving the highest percentage of positive responses.The study concludes that the TEFL subject provides a strong theoretical foundation for Microteaching. Nevertheless, students continue to experience challenges when translating theoretical knowledge into teaching practice. Therefore, continuous practice, reflective learning, and professional development are essential to strengthen pre-service teachers' teaching competence.
