Abstract

The background of this research is based on the low learning ability of students in following theoretical Arabic language lessons, which are less engaging if routine conversational practice is not conducted, because students come from various backgrounds in Arabic learning; some are from general schools while others are from religious schools. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The subjects of this research are Arabic language teachers and students of grades VII, VIII, and IX MTs, and grades X, XI, XII MA Muhammadiyah Curup. Data analysis was conducted through the steps of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Based on the research results obtained through interviews, observations, and documentation at MTs Muhammadiyah Curup, the issues in Arabic language learning based on the students' educational backgrounds in the Arabic subject indicate that most students come from general or public schools. From interviews with teachers and students, it was revealed that students feel more enthusiastic and do not easily get bored when learning is delivered because many of them enjoy and are just being introduced to Arabic lessons, which will certainly benefit them in the future, especially in studying Islam throughout their lives. Additionally, the learning is often accompanied by pictures, animations, and clear key points of the material. Observations during the learning process indicate that students appear more focused on the material, ask more questions, and show positive expressions while actively participating in learning activities. Documentation in the form of photos of activities and attendance records also indicates increased student engagement in the class. Therefore, it can be concluded that the challenges in learning Arabic include students who are not yet able to read the Quran, who have only started learning Arabic since attending MTs and MA Muhammadiyah, and who only study Arabic at school. However, students' interest and enthusiasm in learning Arabic are very good because they understand the material provided by the teacher, especially when it is related to the Quran and directly applicable stories or examples in everyday life. This has been proven to create a more lively, engaging, and effective learning atmosphere, capable of meeting diverse student learning needs, facilitating the understanding of complex concepts, and also to stimulate intrinsic and extrinsic motivation within students to study more diligently. Although in Muhadatsah it is less effective
