Abstract

ix ABSTRACT Waini, (20551074) : Investigating Students’ Autonomous Learning In Listening Skill At TBI IAIN Curup Advisor Co-Advisor : Henny Septia Utami, M.Pd : Meli Fauziah, M.Pd This study is a mixed method study. The purpose of this study was to determine the type of autonomous learning used by students and to determine the implementation, benefits, and challenges in implementing autonomous learning of listening skills. The subjects of this study were 10 English language education students in the eighth semester of 2024. Where the 10 students had passed the listening class and their listening scores increased or their scores were stable at A. Ten students actively engaged in various autonomous learning strategies, such as self-access learning, Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL), and distance learning. The students carried out autonomous learning of listening skills by determining goals, defining content and development, choosing the methods and techniques to be used, monitoring the acquisition procedure properly, evaluating what has been obtained, and practicing consistently. Autonomous learning provides several main benefits, such as meeting the individual needs of students, increasing motivation, and improving communicative competence. The challenges for students in autonomous learning of listening skills are the difficulty of maintaining learning motivation, distractions from social media, and the many academic and non-academic activities. However, the challenges of distraction from social media and the many academic and non-academic activities only apply to a small number of research subjects, namely only 4 out of 10 students.
