Abstract

This thesis is about An Analysis of students’ Understanding Sense Devices in Several Songs lyrics of Maher Zains. The method used descriptive qualitative method. The data was found from analysis students of song lyrics in several songs lyrics. The purpose of this research is to know how the students understanding of figurative language in several song’s lyrics of Maher Zain. In conducting the research, the researcher used descriptive qualitative method. The population of this research is the eight semester students of English Study Program of Educational Departement of IAIN Curup academic year 2018/2019. The researcher used random sampling to determine students’ understanding because the researcher want to know students understanding without any consideration. The instrument of this research is questioner. The findings show that of from 7 students there are 5 students have an good understanding in interpreting song lyircs and 2 students have good understanding in identifying simile with a percentage 80 %, from the others types of figurative language, metaphor, personification and allusion. The higher understanding is Simile, From the result about, especially in interpreting, the students need more practice to achieve a better understanding of figurative language.
