Abstract

This research is entitled “Teacher’s Strategy in Teaching Students’ Reading Ability (Case Study at MI As-Sidiq Giriyoso Musi Rawas). The research was conducted with the aim of knowing what the teacher’s strategy was in teaching student’s reading skills and knowing the supporting and inhibiting factors of the teacher in teaching student’s reading skills. This type of research is qualitative with a case study approach, the research subjects are class II teachers and students. Data and data sources are primary and secondary data. Data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques used data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and data verification techniques. Then the credibility of this research uses triangulation techniques. The result of this study show: 1) The strategy that the teacher uses in teaching students reading skills consist of several steps, namely: (a) Planning, seeking learning innovations and providing facilities. (b) Implementation, namely giving additional schedules, conducting reading evaluations, giving reward, using instructional media and usingthe buttom up strategy, using the basal reader method and the distar method. (c) Evaluation phase, namely using formative assessment consisting of initial tests and evaluation of result carried out oraly and in action. 2) Supporting and inhibiting factors for teachers in teaching students’ reading skills include: Supporting factors, namely students learning motivation to learn to read. And the inhibiting factor is the teacher who does not understand the characteristic of speech delay children.
