Abstract

This study are based on the process of implementation bilingualism class and teachers approach to exploring bilingual interactions in teaching elementary students. The types of this research is qualitative research. To collect the data, the researcher used observations and interviews as instruments for retrieving data. In the observation process the researcher uses field notes to see the implementation of bilingual theory. Interview was used to find the teacher's strategy in bilingual class. The subjects of this study were students and teachers third grade at SD UA Taman Harapan Curup. The result of this research, both teachers had applied bilingualism class in teaching elementary students. The theories applied are language separation, concurrent uses of languages in a lesson, and ESL. The results also show sheltering interaction and translanguaging as bilingual pedagogy as teacher approaches to exploring bilingual interactions in teaching can be applied in elementary schools. In conclusion, both teachers have implemented teaching in bilingual classes. The teaching has shown that bilingual students are able to use two languages so this teaching technique can be used as a recommendation for other schools.
