Abstract
Rajes sadeva : Exploring the Role of YouTube Shorts English Tutorials in Enhancing Students' English Speaking Skills at the English Tadris Study Program of IAIN Curup NIM 22551041 Advisor : Jumatul Hidayah, M.Pd Co-advisor : Sarwo Edy, M.Pd YouTube Shorts English tutorials have become one of the digital learning media that support students in improving their English speaking skills through short-form video content. This research was conducted to determine the role of YouTube Shorts English tutorials in enhancing students’ English speaking skills in the English Tadris Study Program at IAIN Curup. This study employed a descriptive qualitative research design. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and documentation. The participants were selected using purposive sampling and consisted of English Tadris students who had experience using YouTube Shorts English tutorials as part of their independent English learning. The results of the research are: 1) YouTube Shorts play a significant role in supporting students’ English speaking skill development by providing easy access to authentic English content, increasing learning motivation, enriching language input, encouraging regular speaking practice, and promoting autonomous learning. 2) The use of YouTube Shorts positively impacts students’ speaking skills by improving pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary mastery, and speaking confidence. 3) Several additional findings emerged from the research, including algorithm-based personalized learning, entertainment-based incidental learning, cross-platform learning strategies, content limitations of YouTube Shorts, and the influence of repeated exposure through short-form videos. Overall, YouTube Shorts function as an effective digital learning medium that supports students’ English speaking skill development by encouraging continuous practice, increasing learner engagement, and facilitating xi independent learning when used purposefully and responsibly.
