Abstract

ABSTRACT Rahma Madani : Peer Tutoring in Undergraduate Thesis Writing at English Tadris Study Program of IAIN Curup. NIM : 22551040 Advisor : Jumatul Hidayah, M.Pd. Co-Advisor : Sarwo Edy, M.Pd. This research investigated the role and implementation of peer tutoring in supporting undergraduate students during the thesis writing process at the English Tadris Study Program of IAIN Curup. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The participants were nine alumni from the 2020 and 2021 cohorts who had frequently received peer tutoring while completing their undergraduate thesis. They were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi structured interviews developed based on the frameworks of Lin et al. and Carless and Boud, and were analyzed using Braun and Clarke’s thematic analysis. The findings revealed that peer tutoring played five important roles in supporting thesis writing: supporting academic understanding, enhancing confidence and motivation, providing feedback and scaffolding, fostering engagement and active learning, and developing academic skills and selfregulated learning. The findings also showed that peer tutoring was implemented through four feedback literacy processes: appreciating feedback, making judgments, managing affect, and taking action on feedback. These processes helped students understand supervisors’ feedback, improve their thesis drafts, manage emotional responses during revision, and apply feedback effectively. The findings indicate that peer tutoring served as valuable academic support that strengthened students’ thesis writing development and encouraged more independent learning throughout the thesis writing process.
