Abstract

ABSTRACT Abdul Karim Amrullah : Exploring The Architecture of Academic Digital Literacy: A Multidimensional Analysis of EFL Students' Thesis Writing Advisor : Dr. Prihantoro M.Pd Co-Advisor : Meli Fauziah M.Pd This study explores academic digital literacy among EFL students during thesis writing, focusing on the types of digital literacy used, competency levels, and challenges faced. Employing a qualitative case study design, it involved five students from the English Tadris Study Program at IAIN Curup. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis, then analyzed thematically. Findings reveal that students employ multidimensional digital literacy spanning technical, cognitive, social-emotional, sociocultural, and developmental dimensions. While all participants demonstrated competence in academic search engines, the universal integration of Generative AI tools marks a significant shift in academic writing. However, a critical gap emerged in the nonuse of reference management and integrity tools among most participants. Competency levels ranged from Level 3 (Average) to Level 5 (Advanced Mastery), challenging the assumption that university students naturally possess high digital literacy. A notable technical-cognitive gap was observed, where cognitive ability did not translate to referencing proficiency. Students faced multifaceted challenges including technical barriers, cognitive difficulties, affective challenges, and instructional gaps. The interconnected nature of these challenges necessitates comprehensive institutional support. This study contributes to understanding academic digital literacy in EFL contexts and offers practical recommendations for developing targeted instructional interventions.
